The Cimitero Monumentale, near the train station Garibaldi, is one of the largest cemeteries in Milan where you can spend some peaceful hours. Besides the very pleasant atmosphere, the cemetery houses some artistic or otherwise renowned tombs. You get to see artistic tombstones, some modern, some traditional, monuments, artistic mausoleums, funerary shrines and monuments as well as a representation of the Last Supper. The graveyard is surrounded on one side by the Famedio, a Hall-of-Fame that contains the tombs of the city’s and the country’s most honored citizens, such as the tomb of the novelist Alessandro Manzoni.
